Featured Author-Ron Glodich
It’s National Student Athlete Day. As the Executive Producer and Film Director of Beyond the Game, student athletes are a demographic-an audience- that’s near and dear to me. I have always asserted that student athletes are leaders and they can effectively establish platforms for change whether it be in their families, communities, businesses, or philanthropic ventures. A student athlete’s growth and evolution are inspired by many. Without question, great student athletes are directly influenced and developed by great coaches.
As a filmmaker and publisher, I have met many people that have caused me to pause...to reflect further on life and purpose. Author, Ron Glodich, a Hall of Fame coach with winning teams 35 years out of 36, as well as a state championship, is one of those individuals. Silverlight Press is honored to feature author, Ron Glodich and his memoir, A Run to the River, especially, today. He’s a perfect example as to why and how we can join in to support our student athletes. For Ron, it’s been a lifelong and tireless love. His stories have regaled us for months as we’ve watched him upload his drafts and manuscript. The entire team has been abuzz with each chapter. Although we are coaching and collaborating with Ron as to his authorship, book, and literary career, his infectious positivity makes us all feel like we are heading into the Super Bowl together…and in a way, we are!
Ron hails from the wonderful state of Michigan. His Midwestern values and hard work ethic ring true for many of us former Michiganders on the publishing team. A long time resident of the beautiful town of Marine City, Michigan, Ron, at times, seems like he’s the unofficial mayor as everyone there knows this stellar coach and educator. But Marine City cannot find a better ambassador for its community, family, and lifestyle values. His former student athletes, supporting him in his journey as an author, have eagerly gathered and shared their recollections with this much loved coach. Marine City community members- many Ron’s former student athletes now governmental, business, media, and other notables in town-have joined in with additional stories, photos, and footage. Although Ron is the sole author of his book, the community spirit is infused throughout on every level.
An author's journey with his or her publisher should involve a unique chemistry, passionate support, and an unrelenting belief in the book and collaboration. It is definitely the teamwork between author and publisher that I enjoy the most. With Ron, I immediately saw the champion in this author and read it in his stories. It’s so apparent as to how he led his determined student athletes to victory so many times and why he still remains a major influence in their lives and community. Ron's upcoming book isn't a coach preaching, a “how to” book, nor about the "x's and o's". Instead, A Run to the River includes stories that will drill deep into your heart. They will prompt you to walk away with the feeling that this man is your coach or you wish he had been. He'll have you laughing with his irreverent humor, standing on your feet cheering, experiencing the continual adrenalin rush, and crying with his compassionate soul. Friday Nights Light, Texas-style, has nothing over this Michigan brand that Ron established with his players and assistant coaches. As readers, you will be rooting for these unknown underdogs and seeing the impossible become possible when teamwork is emphasized over talent. It’s not surprising that this book has already earned the interest of a film adaptation.
I'm proud of Ron's discipline, perseverance, and achievements-of course, on the field with his amazing student athletes, but more so, by stepping out of his comfort zone and taking on his first book project with the fortitude of a warrior. A first time author, Ron is hooked and looks forward to a lengthy writing career with numerous books in mind. The man who wondered how he might actually write a suggested 50,000 words for his first book is now, unstoppable. We never doubted. Go “Coach”!
